When a loved one passes away, we understand that it is a difficult time. The logistics of dealing with someone's property can be overwhelming.
Sometimes the loved one's assets, such as a bank account or life insurance policy, pass directly to his or her beneficiaries. The assets that do not pass directly to the beneficiaries or heirs need to have someone appointed by a court, called an executor or personal representative, so that someone has authority to distribute the property, pay any taxes due, and settle any debts. This process is called probate. We prepare all of the documents and handle all of the aspects of the court process on your behalf.
Sometimes, all of the loved one's property was left in a trust. In this situation, a probate is unnecessary, and we would work with the trustee to make sure that debts are paid to creditors and the property is distributed appropriately. Our goal is always to help families settle estates peaceably, minimize conflict, and preserve family relationships.
